The Witcher TV Show: 5 Games Netflix Should Adapt Next

Top Casting Pick: Christian Bale as John Marston

With hype for Red Dead Redemption 2 hotter than a handgun at high noon, a lot of fans have been reminiscing about the original Redemption game. The off-the-wall fun of Undead Nightmare is often the first thing that comes to mind, but before that there was breathtaking storytelling.

Conversations with God, the train tracks symbolising the unstoppable march of progress and Jose Gonzalez’s Far Away as you cross the Mexican border, this game was rich with depth. And then there’s the harrowing ending...

The game feels like you’re playing a movie, but in the best possible way. Often such a claim is a criticism of the lack of player control, such as with Heavy Rain. But here, the movie is a classic Western pumped full of bullets. You constantly feel in control but you can’t help admire the stunning visuals too.

The world is so developed it wouldn’t require the story to be built around John, although that would seem like a waste of this brilliant narrative. Christian Bale fits perfectly, being no stranger to complex, melancholy characters. He’s even starred in a Western previously, an underrated remake of 3:10 To Yuma with Russell Crowe.
