THIS Is The Perfect Red Dead Movie
3. Lucas Hedges As Jack Marston
Yes, yes, Logan Lerman. That's the easy choice, but frankly, Lucas Hedges has more of what Jack needs.
Hedges has a boyish innocence about him. Yes, Jack is an outlaw, and yes, he's a killer, but he wasn't always like that. Until very recently, he was a sensitive, artistic, pensive child who felt alienated from his father - a boy in a world that had no place for the real him. Underneath all of Jack's bluster, anger, and vengefulness, there's a boy who just wants to be happy.
Somewhere in there is a kid who never connected with his family, and when that family was taken away from him unceremoniously, he was set adrift in a world in which he didn't belong. He had to betray everything about himself to adapt to this world. After all, the only men he ever knew were outlaws. That's what he knows.
He was a dreamer with an imagination, born in the wrong place and the wrong time for that imagination to flourish. We'd need an actor who can capture both the world-weary bitterness and cynicism that were thrust upon Jack, as well as that youthful optimism and idealism buried just under the surface.
