Tomb Raider: Ranking Every Game Worst To Best
7. Shadow of The Tomb Raider
Probably the most unabashedly ironic name in the entire series, Shadow of The Tomb Raider is an absolute shadow of the two games that preceded it. Just as the sequence was commended for looking like it could replicate the original run in quality, even if not popularity, the final hurdle was just too high, with the resulting fall diminishing the returns for the trilogy.
Despite being easily the most beautifully designed game in the entire franchise, and maybe one of the best looking in the video game industry up until that point, the focus of style over substance is the pitfall that this tertiary unfortunately falls into.
Bringing back the jaguar in a lot of promotional material seemed like a good place to start. It even had fans riled up with excitement. But with excitement comes expectation and the final outcome just didn't meet the standards. The encounter was quite short and derivative of what came before. The addition of other animals, most notably the underwater piranhas that act as a blockade far too often, really disengaged the engrossment factor of the game, but the worst offence of all is just the painfully uninspired story.
A story that has so many predictable twists that M. Night Shyamalan should've spearheaded it, and one that feels like a repeat of what came before, and not in a fun way.
