Tomb Raider: Ranking Every Game Worst To Best
3. Tomb Raider 3
During the 1990s where Lara Croft absolutely reigned supreme over the majority of the video game industry, Tomb Raider 3 could've just as easily been a soulless, hollow cash-grabbing title that made money from momentum alone, but full credit to the development team, they made another unadulterated hit.
The biggest thing of notoriety with the third instalment is the grandiose level of scope. The first was expansive for its time due to it being a brand new infrastructure that games hadn't really seen before. The second utilised the intricacies of the character's personality to provide a more rounded experience with Croft Manor being a fully interactive environment.
But then the third takes all of that and exponentially builds upon it.
Whereas the former entries were veraciously based on reality, the third becomes somewhat whimsical, if not downright preposterous. The games tone shifts between science-fiction, horror and action from time to time, an outlandish ideology that had never been utilised before within the series, but complimented this games rivetting, but unconventional angle.
This feels both like a breath of fresh air, as well as an indication that the franchise may be beginning to slow down, and if the titles that proceeded it were anything to go by, the latter is probably more prominent in this case.
