Tomb Raider: Ranking Every Game Worst To Best
15. Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is admittedly a fairly solid title, but the primary problem is in regards to the expectations that come with a franchise like Tomb Raider, the standards are set ridiculously high. Which makes it more of a shame that this wasn't an unrelated, stand-alone title with a fresh IP. It's plausible that it could've spawned a franchise of its own.
While it technically spawned a spinoff franchise, which we will get to later, it didn't pick up much momentum or even garner much attention. Likely due to the inclusion of its protagonist in a top-down perspective adventure, which isn't what many people have come to expect from the franchise.
So, with an already big nail hammered firmly into the coffin, it wasn't surprising to see the game garner a lack of commercial interest. However, it shouldn't be understated just how appraising the critic reviews was for this title. Most were far from scathing, and some were had even rated the title higher than mainline entries in the series that are still considered bonafide classics.
Its lack of mass appeal was always going to doom it to a less obscure place than anything with higher production values and a more monumental etching in the franchise's echelons.
