Way back in the series' youth, players could grind, flip and spin until their hearts were content. Then, THPS 2 introduced other tricks like manuals, and that became essential for anyone looking to score big and chain together huge lines. As the series progressed, developers added other things like reverts, lip tricks and 'Spine Transfers'.

The remastered games aim to be that authentic Tony Hawk's experience, but they won't ignore some of the Hawk's best party tricks. Reverts, lips and transfers will all be part of the fun, and so will a natural emphasis on using your controller's control sticks to make guiding skaters easier than before.

It would've been a mistake to strip things right back anyway.

The developers used old templates (you can choose between 'Classic' and 'Modern' control schemes) but built on top of them to ensure that the two earliest entries into Tony's franchise play like modern gamers would expect. Gameplay has been reworked to accommodate that, although nostalgia hasn't been sacrificed in the process.
