Uncharted 4: 10 Suggestions To Avoid A Total Misfire

1. A Memorable Ending

To state that the endings of every Uncharted game are underwhelming would be an understatement. Almost every single one ends with the gang looking out over a beautiful view or walking off into the sunset. As has been mentioned earlier, such moments have become very cliché and a bit too €˜and they all lived happily ever after€™. It€™s not just the endings; usually roughly about the last two hours of the games are always very forgettable and this consistently coincides with Drake locating the treasure or lost city he has been looking for. Uncharted 3 might have been all about locating the lost city in the desert, Iram of the Pillars, but the real highlights for players were escaping the sinking cruise liner or the whole plane sequence. What we€™re trying to make clear is that in order to make a truly memorable ending, Naughty Dog need to do what they do best and make a jaw dropping set piece and use it in a climax. Similarly the Uncharted games have never really nailed down how to do a final boss fight. Uncharted 2€™s was a very conventional €˜defeat the super soldier with regenerating health€™ (which sort of made sense based on the story but was still silly) whilst Uncharted 3€™s final fight was pretty much an extended quick time event where the player didn€™t really have any say in how to go about defeating Talbot. The original game probably did the best combination and met these two extremes in the middle whilst still making the climax feel exciting and cinematic. This is what we feel Naughty Dog should aim for with future Uncharted games. So that was ten suggestions we have for Naughty Dog to stop the next Uncharted game being a misstep. Whilst it might seem like we€™ve been a bit harsh and critical of one of the most popular and loved modern gaming franchises please note that while we were able to write 3000 words criticising some aspects we could just have easily wrote five times that expressing what we love about the franchise. Nonetheless do you think the franchise can survive without Nathan Drake? What would you like to see in a future Uncharted game? Leave a comment below.
