Uncharted 4: 10 Suggestions To Avoid A Total Misfire

8. A New Protagonist?

We love Nathan Drake and we love Nolan North. However, and this is purely a suggestion (by no means a requirement to avoid a misstep), but perhaps a new central protagonist might give the franchise a real breath of fresh air. It is hard to imagine an Uncharted game that didn€™t star everyone€™s favourite roguish hero. However, this is truly an opportunity to reinvent the franchise. It has been rumoured that this might be the case, based on an early teaser trailer, with some even suggesting the series might focus on Nathan Drake's (in game) ancestor and British explorer; Sir Francis Drake. This would truly be a bold move for Naughty Dog and with this change in character would also create a change in setting to the 16th Century, which could potentially be a truly unique and refreshing video game setting and experience. A personal suggestion which could be a lot of fun for fans of the series could be making Drake€™s mentor Victor €˜Sully€™ Sullivan the main protagonist, and have the upcoming game be a prequel starring both a younger Sully and perhaps the adventures of Young Drake which were established in Uncharted 3€™s flashback section. However, Sully and Drake are both much-loved characters so removing them completely from the franchise would be a very risky move. However redefining their relationship and perhaps taking inspiration from The Last Of Us gameplay involving Joel and Ellie (or even a much-needed co-op campaign) would allow the franchise to take a bold step forward.
