Uncharted 4: 10 Suggestions To Avoid A Total Misfire
7. A Darker Tone
Although it is regretful that Amy Hennig has left Naughty Dog (she was behind the fleshing out many much loved characters including Drake, Sully and Chloe) her leaving the company does give the developers an opportunity to take Uncharted in a new potentially refreshing direction. This is all the more possible with the recent news that Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley will be taking over her role as creative leads on the new game. Excitingly, both individuals were key players in the creation of Uncharted 2 (which is undoubtedly the best game in the trilogy) but crucially they were behind The Last Of Us too. With their involvement it creates the potential to make the series darker in tone - although hopefully not quite as dark as the emotionally draining adventures of Joel and Ellie. A regular criticism of the Uncharted games is that behind the charm and bravado of Nathan Drake is a man who has killed literally thousands of people. This is certainly a topic that the game could deal with, and if anyone can do so were sure Naughty Dog could. In fact, directly dealing with the violence in video games in such a way is almost inevitable as in recent years AI enemies have changed from mindless, almost identical-looking goons/henchmen into multi-faceted antagonists, seen in the likes of The Last Of Us; genuinely seeming like real people who would actively beg for their lives and be afraid of the player given the reversal of power seen in that game.
