Uncharted 4 Reviews: 10 Spoiler-Free Reactions You Need To Know
7. Levels Are More Open-Ended Than Ever
"Some of the environments are so vast that they take on the illusion of open worlds, giving the player even more freedom to explore, often with a vehicle. These areas change up the pacing nicely and embrace the essence of adventure in a slightly different way." - Andrew Reiner, Game Informer
"The combat gets the most love in among overhauled mechanics, replacing linear shoot outs with more open areas youre free to approach in different ways." - Leon Hurley, Gamesradar
Back when Uncharted 4 was first being shown, the vehicular-based chase levels looked potentially worrysome, as if they devolved into linear fly-throughs of city streets, you'd be forever stopping immediately if you got snagged on a piece of world geometry or missed a particular set-piece cue.
In reality, whilst this car chase is still reportedly one of A Thief's End's highpoints, vehicles are more used to explore larger environments. From the sounds of it, one of the larger expanses towards the close of the game is essentially straight out of MGS V.
A huge Madagascan wildnerness, you can hop in a jeep and dart from outpost to outpost, infiltrating and working through groups of guards on the way to an eventual endpoint, perfectly blending everything you've learned from the Uncharteds of old, mixed with the new.
