Uncharted 4 Reviews: 10 Spoiler-Free Reactions You Need To Know
6. Spectacle-Based Puzzles Beat Tomb Raider At Her Own Game
"Drake hidden corners of the world, often holding elaborate puzzle contraptions that produce legitimately fun and challenging gameplay moments. The adventuring spirit is alive and well in this instalment" - Andrew Reiner, Game Informer.
There's been something of a back and forth going on between Uncharted and Tomb Raider these last few years. Where the latter brought the archaeological Indiana Jones-inspired adventures to the medium in the first place, it was Naughty Dog who reinvented them, leading to Crystal Dynamics re-ripping off Uncharted's movement and combat style in Lara's most recent incarnations.
Now we've come full circle. Uncharted 4 continues its own brand of light puzzle-solving by funnelling your enjoyment through spectacle and set-piece alone. Game Informer note that "levels offer an odd abundance of old school box-pushing puzzles, which sometimes feel like they are there just to slow player progression", but many will find this endearing, considering the history of both the genre and the duelling franchises.
As evident above, the most memorable elements of traversal come through visual horsepower, as it's there where Uncharted 4 is untouchable.
