Undertale: Every Main Character Ranked Worst To Best
7. Toriel
It's time to talk about the goat mum herself. While Flowey may be the first character you meet, it's Toriel who literally takes you by the hand and guides you through The Ruins, giving you a sense of the game and establishing the wholesome experience you are about to have. Like a duckling attaching to its mother, it's easy for her kindness and loving hand to become your paternal guide to The Underground.
There's a sweetness to Toriel that's almost sickly, as her overly concerned attitude towards you makes the game's intro reflect differently on players. Some love how adorable and supportive she is, whereas other hate how much control she takes over you. This ends up feeding how you'll be playing the game - as either a wholesome hero or purveyor of death.
The only flaws to Toriel come in the fact that you won't get to see much of her outside of a pacifist run and that her motherly character is relatively one-note. While her deep motivation to help you - thanks to the loss of her own child and failure to save the other fallen children - is deep, it doesn't stop her from feeling somewhat simple.
But that doesn't mean you can't love her as your Undertale mother.
