You never really play as Josh in Until Dawn (although theres a very good reason for that), so when you are placed in his shoes near the end of the game, its a surprise in and of itself. Unfortunately for us, it only gets more surprising and creepy from there. The game makes it clear that Josh isnt exactly mentally stable, but its only when he (and by extension, you) starts hallucinating in the mines that you realise just how far off the deep end Josh is. First, his dead sisters appear and start scolding him, which is creepy enough. Then the walls of the mines suddenly turn into pulsating, grotesque mounds of flesh, complete with guts and gore galore. Then youre attacked by a pigs head erupting from the flesh-walls by vomiting up more guts and intestines. These give birth to your sisters again, except now theyre more rotten. And bloody. It ends with Hannah ripping the skin off her own face and turning into a monster crawling through the flesh-walls. The whole thing is disgusting and incredibly freaky but at the same time, its really, really cool and it really shows just how fragile Joshs mental state is. Definitely not for the squeamish, though.
