In war, it is important to preserve as many soldiers' lives as possible, and while death is, unfortunately, unavoidable it usually means that the soldiers' term in whatever army they serve under is over.

But in the world of 40K death is never truly the end. For the bravest of space marines that fall in battle, their death isn't necessarily permanent. As those who are found near-death are placed inside walking metal tombs known as dreadnoughts.

Dreadnoughts are some of the largest and deadliest soldiers in the Imperium. Walking, talking instruments of death able to use more armaments than a whole year of Disney fireworks. These mechanized soldiers are piloted by barely living remains of fallen Space Marines.

In Warhammer, these machines are respected and valued highly amongst the military but the Imperium really is just turning their soldiers into fully aware zombies forced to serve for tens of thousands of years fighting in an endless cycle of galactic warfare, never knowing the bliss of death's permanent sleep.

Not only does this show the Imperium's complete disregard for the laws of nature, but it also shows how horrifically effective people have been brainwashed into serving the Imperium of Man even after death.
