Watch Dogs 2 Review: 7 Ups & 6 Downs
4. The Awful Checkpoint System
It's 2016 and we're still getting games with horrendous checkpoint systems. WD2 really struggles in this department and it can result in some infuriating experiences for the player.
Basically, if you're killed while on assignment, you may very well get thrown back 20 or 30 minutes, especially if you've just spent a ton of time carefully scoping out enemies, carrying out hacks and basically favouring stealth (i.e. playing the game how it's meant to be played). The game refuses to recognise your efforts and harshly starts you way, way back.
Thankfully the game is on the whole fairly easy so you probably won't die all that often, but still, having to repeat the same sequence several times at great length just feels like an artificial way to inflate the game's playtime.
Hell, there's a set-piece where Marcus has five minutes to defuse a series of bombs, and if you fail, you have to sit through the same minute-long dialogue again before being able to re-attempt it. Who honestly felt like this was a good idea?
