Why There's Been No Batman: Arkham For Three Years
2. Damian Wayne... As Batman?!
Also mentioned in Kotaku's report was the project Montreal were said to be developing in the wake of Suicide Squad - a futuristic Arkham title where players would take on the role of Batman's son, Damian Wayne.
Information on the game is practically non-existent, but we do know that players would've been given the Bat-Cycle to use as their primary mode of transportation (perhaps as an attempt to dial down the excesses of Arkham Knight's Batmobile?), and that Damian was the leading character. We can only speculate as to where the game would've drawn most of its inspiration from - perhaps Batman Beyond, perhaps Batman #666 - but still, its premise was undeniably unique and that's perhaps where it fell afoul of Warner Bros. yet again.
Because, ever since this report, we've heard next to nothing of Montreal's efforts. The studio itself has remained particularly quiet, and apart from an update from Schreier this April on Kinda Funny's Games Daily show that alluded to the game having been canned, 'rebooted' or delayed indefinitely, details of Montreal's next project have proven difficult to come by. Greg Miller himself notes (around 45 mins into the video) that Montreal may have even pivoted into a Justice League game, but that's the last we've heard of those rumours.
Still, they are working on something. The studio are always hiring and their site makes explicit reference to DC Comics, and with former Splinter Cell alum Patrick Redding now involved too, Batman seems the likely IP for Montreal to tackle next - potentially with a stealthy focus in mind.
