Wii U: 9 Hotly Anticipated Games That Actually Make It Worth Buying

5. Star Fox Zero

Go on, say it - it's what we're all thinking anyway: Star Fox Zero isn't exactly shaping-up to be the most visually-outstanding game ever, and that's putting it lightly. Ever since the initial reveals and early previews, consumers have been quick to latch onto the apparently low visual fidelity of Star Fox Zero (myself included) but, as is always the case, visual clout is only one side of the coin. Look past the sparse and basic textures - if you can - for just a moment though, and you'll realise that barrel-rolling through the sky in an Arwing has never looked as entertaining. On-rails shooters are so few and far between these days that the younger generation don't always know what to make of such a mechanic. Nintendo have stuck to their guns despite that uncertainty though, opting to build on the heart of the Star Fox series by adding in some new quirks. The aptly-named 'chicken walker' and some neat - albeit risky, if they get it wrong - gyroscopic and second screen mechanics shown off in various video snippets look great in action and both are sure to add some much-needed variety. Shame about the return of Slippy Toad though. He clearly still hasn't gone back to flight school. Bloody amphibians.
