The Witcher 2: 15 Reasons It's A Hidden Masterpiece You've Ignored
6. Easy To Learn, Hard To Master
Like all games of this genre, The Witcher 2 involves a lot of combat, specifically sword combat. Like more modern RPGs it forgoes using a turn-based style and focuses more on action-based, visceral mechanics. It may be an RPG, but it is an action game to its core. Upon first starting the game, one might be tempted to just start swinging their sword all around in an attempt to hit something. This is quite doable, as the basics of combat are pretty easy to learn. However, do this long enough and youll feel the pain of defeat often. In order to win, you actually have to take into account the details of the situation, meaning you need to assess the enemys weaknesses beforehand, preparing accordingly by creating the right potions and weapons, and use the right tactics when actually fighting them. All this comes together to create a detailed and complex combat system that rewards forward thinking and punishes short-sided button mashing. It is easy to learn the basics, but it remains harder to master, making for an all-round rewarding action game.
