The Witcher 2: 15 Reasons It's A Hidden Masterpiece You've Ignored

3. Actual Different Endings

Many video games these days, particularly high concept RPGs, claim to have multiple different endings that depend on the choices you make. It€™s not surprising that most of these promises amount to two or three endings that either only differ in minor ways or are radically different. The most egregious example of this is of course Mass Effect 3. What was supposed to cap off a trilogy in a variety of ways depending on choices made through three games ended up amounting to three similar endings completely separated from your choices. The Witcher 2 doesn€™t fall prey to failed expectations. Look at the above screen shot and you will see just how many branches there are to the story. Like the choices themselves, the effect they have on the story are subtle, and it is only through graphics like this that you are able to grasp how much variety there is to the story. The endings themselves differ not in big, sweeping moments, but in the details and implications of choices you made moving forward - it doesn€™t scream out €œEnding 1€ or €œEnding 2,€ instead it's just great storytelling told through proper use of choice-based mechanics.
