In preparation for this review, this geeky collector went back and sampled every entry in the series stretching back to 2K14. Upon firing up everything from 2K15 onwards, there was a depressing realisation that hey, 2K's series has sucked since landing on the next-gen. Exactly none of the PS4/Xbox One titles are essential, and only Steve Austin's Showcase from 2K16 was greeted with a smile when replaying.

2K19 is a more complete experience than anything else 2K has offered on current tech. It's a sandbox of WWE-related fun, exactly as these games should be, and isn't afflicted with the same emptiness as 2K15 or the tragic lack of features over the past two years.

Finally, for the first time, 2K have crafted a game that feels like it's taking advantage of modern hardware. If they can develop a new engine, or at least tweak the current one so that it doesn't lapse into archaic glitching, then they'll be onto a winner.

Whether you think the series requires a reboot or not, there should be no arguing that 2K19 is the best WWE video game both Sony and Microsoft's latest consoles have seen yet.

What do you think of WWE 2K19 so far? Vast improvement or same old, same old? Let us know down in the comments section below!
