The new lighting engine complements improved character models.

Depth of field and lighting were both important aspects that 2K wanted to work on in 2K22. The main positive here is that arenas feel larger than they did before - WrestleMania, for example, has always lacked the epic size it has in those gargantuan real-life stadiums. That doesn't seem to be an issue any longer.

There's a cool byproduct of including the ThunderDome LED boards too. Entrances and matches with those on give everything a more claustrophobic atmosphere, but that was the case when WWE played before digital crowds mid-pandemic. Seeing that replicated in-game is surprisingly sweet and makes for a nice change of pace.

Lighting cascades down on structures and superstar bodies realistically. Has this been a touted feature for years? Well, yeah, but it's been refined to near-perfection this time. Plus, 2K20's lighting, hues and presentation were all over the shop out of the box.
