WWE 2K22: 10 Small Details That Make It Brilliant

7. The Commentary From Rey Mysterio

Gamers have seen before how 2K Games will get certain wrestlers involved to provide talking head footage to accompany certain Showcase offerings. So, having cover star Rey Mysterio detail his own Showcase story isn't anything particularly groundbreaking.

What's a nice touch that's different to previous Showcases, is that Mysterio not only provides context and input before and after matches, but he also interjects during these contests to give an insight into his mindset at that particular moment in time.

Sure, it's a little cheesy in how the Master of the 619 is clearly working off a script and speaking strictly in a kayfabe fashion, but that's to be expected with a video game of this nature. Previously, Showcase matches have cut between in-game action and real video footage of the contest in question. That still happens here, just Mysterio chimes in and provides a voiceover as the real footage parts play.

It's also worth noting how seamless the transition is between game footage and TV footage, with Visual Concepts doing a great job of having these segments dovetail together as certain maounvres are hit.
