WWE 2K22: 10 Things They Must Get Right
4. "New" Modes
There's a reason why "new" is formatted that way.
Of course, old favourites like GM and Story Mode are hardly new. They were once pillars of the WWE video game world, but they've been left behind in favour of more vapid or empty-headed features like Universe, MyCareer and the dreaded Towers slog. What good is bags of content if those bags are full of things you don't want?
2K22 is the team's chance to be grovelling sneaks. They can clasp their hands, apologise and walk towards fans with a peace offering. That would come in the form of an old fave like GM, or a proper, honest-to-goodness Story Mode starring real-life WWE wrestlers rather than some generic CAW hacks.
The randomised cutscenes, feuds, tag-team breakups and more of 2K20's Universe are a step backwards. They're SmackDown 1 on PSOne rather than the brilliance of Here Comes The Pain's tightly-focused narratives on PS2.
Bring that back.
