2K19 and 2K20's MyCareer modes weren't perfect, and the latter's didn't look like a work of art, but both were 100x better than crumbly efforts of yesteryear. A linear story is preferable to endless slogs through matches that don't matter, and the mode could be special if 2K and VC double down on it.

They plan to.

Patrick told one gamer that 2K22's MyCareer will rely more on player choice. There will be multiple, branching story paths that help make each player's experience more unique, and it'll focus heavily on key decision-making to encourage more than one playthrough.

This is another thing gamers hear from developers all the time ('your choices matter'), but Gilmore seemed genuinely excited about where MyCareer could go next. In another answer, he said that 2K22 would be geared more towards living the life of a WWE superstar, so hopefully this will be a full-on, authentic story.
