WWE 2K25: 10 Gameplay Details You Need To Know
2. The Underground Match

A legitimate never-been-done-before-in-a-WWE-game match type, the Underground match debuts in WWE 2K25 - but it seems it was perhaps once an impossibility.
In the aforementioned Q&A, Derek Donahue detailed the changes presented to the 2K team by the Underground match, which, at first, looks no more like a modder's hard work in action:
"The idea of a ring without ropes has completely upended how combat works in the game and that's something you're going to feel immediately when you get into the match. The interactions at the edge of the ring are completely reworked, and this is something that helps both Underground matches and fighting outside the arena in brawl arenas."
2K note that the digital audience will "react differently" and will bang on the mat, as in real life, though it's more than likely the case that no more than two dozen, if that, animations are in the can to be sprinkled throughout the matches.
The Bloodline Rules match also debuts in WWE 2K25, though it features significantly less convolution: it takes on the form of a standard No Disqualifications match, with a new Payback ability allowing you to call for back-up if you have a finisher stored.
