XBox 720 Next-Gen Announcement: 5 Things We NEED To Happen

3. Announce Whether The New Console Will Have Blu-Ray Support

00346 Speaking of "Software Issues", the new Xbox would do itself a lot of good to pick up the pace in a factor Sony has them beat with: the inclusion of the Blu Ray format. It's widely known that Microsoft picked a side in the Format Wars, and that side was the one that didn't win. It also didn't help that they decided to make an unwieldy external peripheral to use that format, instead of integrating it into the actual 360 hardware and using the format (be it tentatively or not) for their gaming software. Instead, they stuck with the soon to be obsolete DVD format and chose to render games like Final Fantasy XIII, L.A. Noire, and other lengthy masterpieces that would fit on one Blu Ray, onto several DVDs. One could see that Microsoft was picking a side, but hedging their bets at the same time. Now that HD-DVD has been in the ground for several years now, it's probably safe to say that Blu Ray is here to stay for a good couple of years. It's time for Microsoft to bring themselves up to speed with the business (as well as put further pressure on Nintendo to modernize themselves) and upgrade their systems for Blu Ray capability.
