8. DOOM 3
Of the four Doom titles included in the 20 game drop, Doom 3 is perhaps the most overlooked for deviating from some of the series's more familiar elements.
Following the original games and their fast-paced arcade style shooting, which 2016's Doom ultimately resurrected and to which the series has since stuck, Doom 3 was originally a reboot designed to take the franchise down a more tense, atmospheric, horror road.
Set on Mars in 2145, you play a potentially more low-key iteration of 'Doom Guy,' freshly transferred to a UAC scientific research base, which is more or less a run by aforementioned Military-Industrial conglomerate UAC. Alas, some meddling scientists open a gate to Hell, unleashing demons and other assorted infernal beasts upon the planet.
So now, you must survive and try to escape.
Doom has always been a horror series in terms of design and aesthetics. Doom 3, however, is the sole title to really lean heavily into this genre. The result is an excellent and often overlooked first person horror experience, for those who like having a way to fight back after they're scared.
