Xbox Game Pass: 10 Best Horror Games You Must Play
1. Dead Space
A sci-fi survival horror treat from the Xbox 360 days, EA Redwood Shores' original Dead Space was pretty unique in its time for not letting you pause the game. It displayed ammo count, maps, and health all in-game, ensuring that even the inventory management was a tense experience.
Set on the spaceship Ishimura, you take control of engineer Issac Clarke who is searching for his missing girlfriend, Nicole. The game has survival horror elements to it, but the real scares come from what you have to spend your resources on.
The Necromorphs are Cronenberg-esque body horror atrocities. Uniquely, Dead Space has you strategically blasting limbs off to over power the Necromorphs. So be prepared for panic shooting and tense moments when you get suddenly swarmed.
With a claustrophobic feeling throughout, and a focus on creepy sound design, Dead Space is a very scary take on action that holds up unbelievably well, 12 years after its original release.
Both sequels are also available on EA Play (via Game Pass Ultimate), but they are more action based than the original offering. They are great games in their own right, but neither come close to the horror of Issac’s original grotesque space adventure.
