Xbox Game Pass: 10 Must-Plays You Should Try

5. Void Bastards

Forza Horizon 4 Halo
Blue Manchu

With a cel-shaded presentation reminiscent of comic books but very much inspired by the more steampunk-style Bioshock and 90s shooter System Shock, this zany roguelike shooter offers an experience starkly different to any of the other Game Pass titles.

Its randomly generated dungeons are exactly that- bafflingly random. While fighting an ever-decreasing supply of oxygen, you may encounter pools of acid, trigger-happy robots, space zombies and other things that defy description.

There's no knowing what's waiting to kill you when you leave the relative safety of your spaceship (called STEV, pronounced Steve), other than an omnipresent AI voiced by Kevan Brighting- familiar to anyone who has laughed their way through The Stanley Parable.

While the standard tropes of unlocking weapons and skills as you progress are inevitably present, much of the fun comes from the eclectic array of loot that can be salvaged; it ranges from the mundane (batteries) to the bizarre (severed fingers), but almost all can be deconstructed for materials.

Void Bastards is irritatingly addictive- what does the next dungeon have in store? The only way to find out is by losing further hours of your life to this unique and thoroughly enjoyable dungeon crawler.

I'm perfectly sane, or so the voices tell me. British, sarcastic, president of the European Slinky Association, have a tendency to lie when listing things about myself. 100% guilty of being a massive geek obsessed with Doctor Who, Harry Potter and video games. If you can't find me on the internet, I'm probably locked in a room playing Spyro the Dragon on my old PlayStation, or blowing everything to smithereens with a concrete donkey on Worms: Armageddon.
