6. Deadlight: Director’s Cut
Who’s in the mood for another zombie game with grey skies and bleak pathos? The correct answer is nobody, which pretty much equals the reception this downloadable title received on its initial release as an Xbox 360 exclusive.
That’s a bummer for Tequila Works’ premiere game since outside of the rote premise, they have a lot of fresh ideas they bring to the undead table.
Set in 80s Seattle - around the time that things went post-apocalyptic - you play as a gravel-voiced drifter who we follow on his survival mission through a sharply stylised world, and whose dark past drifts in and out of the gameplay.
If that sounds familiar enough, what sets this apart is the refreshing 2D plain it's presented in, with an emphasis taken on avoiding, puzzling or utilising the undead, instead of just mowing them down with firepower. In fact, guns are a last resort and ammo quite hard to come by.
This clever little platformer contains enough twists in its plot and fresh spins on the genre to make it an enjoyable ride in its short running time, and defiantly worth a look to those that missed it the first time around.
