Xbox Project Scorpio Reveal - 10 Things We Learned

10. It's A Legacy Console

Although many of us thought the Scorpio reveal was going to be some kind of livestream or perhaps a debut of new software, everything that came out centred entirely around hardware specifications, and how by boosting the core guts of the Xbox One, that approach feeds back into your existing collection, not some far away eye-widening vision of the future.

To that end, everything that played on the Xbox One and 360 is fully backwards compatible with the Scorpio, honouring the same implementation of playing older games on the Xbox One right now. This stands in strong opposition to the PS4 and PS4 Pro, which can only play PS4 games, and gates PS3 and PS2 titles behind the monthly streaming PlayStation Now service or re-buying HD remasters instead.

It's a far more consumer-friendly move, and puts Microsoft ahead of the pack even against Nintendo, being the new Switch has no way to play Wii U titles.

One hell of an opening gambit.
