Xbox Scarlett: 5 Burning Questions Microsoft Must Answer
1. What Happens If The Cloud Crashes?
The most obvious question surrounding Xbox Scarlett is also a simple one: what happens if the cloud crashes? The entire system will seemingly run on cloud-based technology and storage, so if that gets hacked, crashes, or some such disaster, what happens to our games? Our progress? Our sanity?
The reason many gamers are reluctant to go all-in on digital market-fronts, i.e. PSN and Xbox Live, is because they believe them to be unreliable. It's not an unreasonable notion, especially given the many PSN outages since 2011. So, when such outages occur, gamers would be unable to access their vast library of games. This is obviously a problem, but it's not as though things are ever going to go backwards.
Having an all-digital games library certainly is easier, less clutter, and more manageable; simply put, it's the future. Things are only going to get easier and such digital outages are less common on Xbox, so this is one that is a little terrifying but not as apocalyptic as many believe.
Hopefully the brains at Microsoft have come up with a fail-proof cloud-streaming console.
