The whole "No one plays old games" assumption from Sony at the start of the generation was hogwash. Like saying people only ever read the newest books or watch the latest Hollywood blockbusters.

It's just not true.

Thankfully, Microsoft realised this in the best way on Xbox One, and with things like the Xbox S and X, they automatically upgrade many existing titles to crisp 4K, offering additional rendering features where possible. It's a way for your collection to look better in ways you never thought, and is ultimately like being gifted a set of remasters for no extra cost.

Thankfully, the Series X will support ALL original Xbox, Xbox 360 AND Xbox One games out the box, with Microsoft claiming you can play “thousands of your favorite games across four generations of gaming”.

That "thousands" comment solidifies full compatibility rather than the selective way it's been handled this generation, as the full list of available games barely scratches 1000 in the first place.

A system that respects how much money we all put into sizeable game collections is by far the way to go.
