Zelda 35th Anniversary: 9 Things Fans NEED To See
1. A Remake Of The Original Legend Of Zelda
Much like the original Metroid game, 1986's eponymous The Legend Of Zelda is almost unplayable today, being virtually impossible to complete without a walkthrough.
Strangely sharing more in common with the series' most recent mainline entry, Breath Of The Wild, than any other game in the franchise, the original Legend Of Zelda is an open-world adventure that suffers from its opaque hints, Link's limited sword swing directions and puzzles with no in-game solutions whatsoever.
Although the title has been re-released numerous times throughout the years and is readily available to stream on the Nintendo Switch, it is strange to consider that Nintendo never gave it the remake treatment. This is especially baffling given the critical and commercial success of Metroid: Zero Mission, an expanded remake of the original title in that lesser-played franchise.
While Metroid: Zero Mission wedged on an entirely new stealth section to the original Metroid title, The Legend Of Zelda does not need any such additions. Beneath its dated exterior lies the heart of a game as pure and captivating as A Link To The Past - it just needs a bit of polish to be set free.
35 years down the line, it's time for Nintendo to give new players a chance to experience the game that started it all. Bonus points if they remake the second (even more obtuse but innovative) NES game, The Adventure Of Link, too.
