Zombie Army 4: Dead War Review

If It Ain't Broke, Add A Giant Zombie Shark

The real reason you should play Zombie Army 4: Dead War has to be for its style and pulpy horror, which is here in spades.

Where Zombie Army Trilogy felt pretty safe, even though there was a ton of demonic imagery and pentagrams everywhere the player turned, Dead War takes each mission and turns it into a unique B-Movie.

The first mission Dead Ahead, for example, is pretty much what we saw from the first game years ago, but soon as a team of zombie slayers jump into mission two, Death Canal, they are treated to shooting zombies in the streets and on the canals of Venice.

From then on, without spoiling anything, each level feels fresh and has its own cool, memorable moments. Giant shark traps, anyone?

There is a hell of a lot more going on than just getting X-Ray slow-motion kills on the streets of Berlin, and you can tell that love and care went into making each mission fun from start to finish.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War is full of charm and bursting with little easter eggs - just take a look at the trophy list and you’ll see more thought went into this than most other triple-A titles on the market today.

In a world with gargantuan games that all want your time, and feel the need to be a live service, Zombie Army 4 doesn’t overstay its welcome, but more than delivers on phenomenal, zombie killing action.

If it ain't broke, don’t fix it (but definitely experiment with zombified sharks).

Rating: ★★★½ out of 5
