The House:

Taking you into the twisted mind of The Weeknd, this house sees you being hunted by "slashers, bandaged maniacs, gruesome toad-like creatures". All of this is set to music from the award-winning album "After Hours".

The Verdict:

The Weeknd: After Hours was number 2 on our hype list and it turns out with good reason.

Houses that takes you into imagination are usually surreal and this house certainly fits that description. The characters are unnerving and at times grotesque. You never feel safe in this maze with a cast of killers ready to strike at any time. They look great and are sinister enough for a good scare.

The set of the house is impressive. There's so much texture and depth to the sets, lit fantastically with an array of flashing lights. The room of mirrors and lights is particularly effective in making you feel disoriented. Never knowing what was waiting around the corner. This maze gave some genuine scares because it is easy enamoured by what was around you.

The real star of this house is of course the music. Blasting from the queue area are the unmistakable songs of the Weeknd, though once you enter the maze things get a little warped. Like a well choreographed music video, The Weeknd's songs fit perfectly into the house.

You don't have to be a fan of The Weeknd's music to enjoy this house and if you’re thinking you might skip it for this reason you'd be missing out on a fantastic house.

Ultimately this house has it all. Creepy characters, immersive sets and the perfect soundtrack. Not forgetting some good scares. What more could you ask for?!

Final Thoughts

HHN 31 truly pulled out all the stops when making this year's event. From the incredible costumes to the truly breathtaking sets, it really is one of the best events we've experienced.

The quality of the houses at the 31st Halloween Horror Nights made this a difficult year to rank. The houses we placed between 8 and 6 could easily be switched around without any arguments. The quality of the top 4 houses are like nothing we have experienced before.

We think that everyone who attends HHN31 will rank these houses completely differently and that's why this year's event is so good. With so many terrific houses on offer, it will most likely come down to personal preferences.

This year's event truly has something for everyone. No matter what scares you, HHN31 will force you to face your fears.
