6. What A Winker!
How anyone can look upon Ronaldo's antics at World Cup 2006 without thinking Wayne Rooney would've done exactly the same thing, given the opportunity, is beyond belief.
Still standing in the shadow of the great Luis Figo, Ronaldo was relegated to something of a bit part role at a World Cup Portugal should've won easily. The team simply couldn't get to grips with one another and it showed far too often on the pitch as disjointed passing and weak counter attacks ensued throughout the group stage.
By the time the knockouts came around, Portugal were drawn against an England side who were also expected to succeed. Ronaldo was very familiar with the England squad, being a teammate of most of them, and took it upon himself to be the villain of the piece as Wayne Rooney left an impression on the lacklustre Ricardo Carvalho.
A word in the referee's ear later and Ronaldo was blamed for Rooney's dismissal from the game and England's elimination. Winking at the Portugal bench didn't help his case but three more glorious years at United suggested Rooney had no problem with Ronaldo's actions.
