10 Big Real Madrid Signings Who Failed To Live Up To The Hype
2. Wesley Sneijder
Recently retired Dutch midfielder Sneijder actually enjoyed a brilliant first season in Madrid after winning his move to Spain from Ajax.
He impressed with his set-pieces and overall performances and helped Madrid land the La Liga title in the 07/08 season.
However, that was as good as it got for Sneijder as he picked up a serious injury in pre-season ahead of his second season in Spain, and he never really got going again for Real.
Sneijder found himself on the move as he secured a move to Inter Milan, where he really showed the talent he had in the locker as he played a key role in Jose Mourinho's Champions League winning team.
It's a shame more than anything that Madrid never got to see the best of Sneijder on a consistent basis. Had he not been injured, there's a strong argument to be made that he might top a list of Madrid's finest signings of the last 15 years or so.
As it is, he failed to ever live up to expectation and subsequently ends up high up this list instead.
