10 Biggest Brendan Rodgers Mistakes As Liverpool Manager

7. Neglecting The Defence

Defence is an aspect of modern football that appears to be neglected across the board in the Premier League. All the money gets splashed around on big-name strikers and midfielders, focussing on the back of the opponents' net without much regard given for stopping goals scored against your team. Recently, Liverpool have been worse at than most. A lack of striking power for parts of Rodgers' tenure certainly haven't helped matters, but neither have truly painful losses like the 6-1 drubbing Stoke brought down on Liverpool at the end of the 2014-15 campaign. Yet the manager still insists, effusively and repeatedly, that the team has no need to focus on extra defensive coaching. The first team has an assistant coach, goalkeeping coach and €œdevelopment€ coach, but nobody specifically to improve the defence. In summer 2015 Gary McAllister was brought on as coach, and as Sean O'Driscoll as assistant manager. No sign of a defensive coach, even after advice from a former Man United manager.
