What would a list of NFL controversies be without an entry based around the New England Patriots? Last season, the 'deflategate' scandal hit the news as it emerged footballs used in their AFC Championship game with the Colts had been deflated, though it is not the greatest of their indiscretions. In 2007, 'spygate' was a huge deal, after the Patriots were found guilty of recording their opponents defensive signals in order to gain an edge. Coach Bill Belichick was fined a record $500,000 by the league, while the Patriots were fined $250,000 for their involvement in the activity which could have spanned years.
