10 Footballers Who Recovered From World Cup Disgraces
3. Luis Suárez
Imagine physically sinking your teeth into another person's shoulder and taking a chunk of their flesh. Luis Suárez doesn't need to, because he's done it more than once.
Arguably his most famous biting incident came during a crunch (ahem) meeting with Italy in the final Group D match of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Racing into the box like a man possessed, Suárez then inexplicably bit Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder and dramatically fell to the ground as if he'd been poleaxed.
Understandably horrified by what had just happened, Chiellini stared a hole through Suárez and probably wondered if the Uruguayan striker even needed his half-time orange after chowing down on him. Later, Suárez was banned for four months and later apologised. This wasn't even his first World Cup-related disgrace either. Four years earlier in South Africa, his deliberate hand ball on the line denied Ghana a semi final berth and earned Luis a deserved red card.
The biting incident didn't stop him from becoming a raging success at new club Barcelona when he finally started playing again in October 2014. Since joining the Catalan giants, Suárez has won La Liga three times, the Copa del Ray four times, and bagged one FIFA World Club Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Champions League each. Oh, and he's also scored over 100 goals.
Only question is, does he still have the hunger for more?
