Steve Perryman MBE may be a lesser known name to modern football fans but is one of hardest players to understand on this list. Notching up 725 appearances and 31 goals in a career that spanned over twenty years, Perryman won the FA Cup, League Cup, and UEFA Cup twice each during his time playing for Tottenham Hotspur between 1969 and 1986. He was also the Football Writer's Association Footballer of the Year in 1983.

That was also the year he managed his one and only England Cap. After 17 appearances for England U21s and a solid club career, many feel he should have had more opportunities than he ended up with. He came on as a 73rd-minute substitute against Iceland on 2 June 1982, replacing Alan Devonshire in a side that also included Viv Anderson, Glenn Hoddle, Terry McDermott, and Cyrille Regis. Ron Greenwood's side drew 1-1 away in front of 11,000 people and Steve Perryman, unfortunately, wasn't picked again.
