Rebecca Romero was a world-class rower who was part of the British quadruple skulls team which won silver at the 2004 Athens Olympics and gold at the 2005 World Championships. Due to a persistent back injury, Romero was forced to retire from rowing in 2006, but quickly moved from the water to the velodrome, taking up track cycling. Incredibly she won a silver medal in her international cycling debut, and at the 2008 Beijing Olympics became the first British woman to compete in two different Olympic sports. She won gold in the individual pursuit, becoming only the second woman to win medals in two different sports at the Summer Games.
