10 Liverpool Heroes Whose Careers Have Nosedived Since Leaving Anfield

Why would you ever want to leave Anfield?

They say the grass isn't always greener. For these players, they were never able to replicate their Anfield prowess elsewhere, no matter how forcefully they tried. Whether they were pushed out the door due to their ageing limbs, or they simply jumped at the chance to sign for a 'bigger' club in the hope of hoisting some more trophies, their transfers simply did not work out for them, and they subsequently spent their remaining years as a professional trying in to vain to recapture some glimpse of form. Liverpool supporters might feel a slight sense of smugness in how some of these moves failed to pay off for the footballers that they used to worship every weekend. They might have felt cheated by a perceived lack of loyalty, and indeed some of these players have burnt bridges on Anfield, tossing their reputation on Merseyside into the flames as their career trajectory took them into the arms of Liverpool's most hated rivals. Some of these transfers might serve as a warning to those Liverpool players who are beginning to get itchy feet under Brendan Rodgers this season. In the case of Raheem Sterling - he could probably have his pick of any club in the land, and most in Europe, but if he takes a glance at some of these even bigger names who have struggled to keep their head afloat as soon as they step foot outside Anfield, he might think twice. Take a look at the ten Liverpool heroes whose careers have taken a downhill slump since leaving the club.
