There were just two games remaining in the Premier League season. Spurs were fourth in the table, Manchester City were fifth. Spurs were on 67 points, Manchester City were on 66. Citys goal difference was one better than Spurs. A win would have put City two points ahead of Spurs with a game to go, a draw would have maintained the status quo and a Spurs win would ensure they qualified for the Champions League for the first time. Spurs dominated proceedings but couldn't find a breakthrough that is until Peter Crouch struck with eight minutes left on the clock to send the fans wild and the club in to the Champions League for the first time.
