10 Outsiders Who Could Make England's World Cup 2018 Squad

Against Roma in the first leg of Liverpool's Champions League semi final, James Milner racked up his ninth assist in the competition, setting up Roberto Firmino for an easy header into the back of the net. In doing so, he beat the previous record of eight assists and cemented his status as one of the most effective chance creators of the season in Europe.

The 32-year-old retired from England duty back in 2016 when Sam Allardyce took over as England boss, but Allardyce's reign famously failed in spectacular fashion and it's possible that Milner might be more eager to work with Southgate, and vice versa.

The hard-working, versatile Yorkshireman has enjoyed a real renaissance since joining Liverpool from Man City and could be a big asset to the Three Lions, able to fill in as a winger, midfielder, and even a full-back as needed, as well as adding a bit of wisdom and experience to a relatively youthful England squad.
