You wait five years to sign a defender and then you splurge half a decade€™s worth of transfer kitty on one centre-half - at least that was what was planned by Barcelona when they attempted to ensnare the Brazilian Chelsea centre-half for £35 million in 2013.

According to the flamboyant, curly-haired defender, he only had eyes for Stamford Bridge, however, claiming that despite €˜an official offer, I decided to stay at Chelsea€™.

''I do not like rumours about my possible departure. I have a contract with Chelsea until June 2017 and I do not want to talk to any other club.۪۪ - David Luiz, July 2013.

Almost as if to reaffirm to the world that he isn€™t the world€™s biggest footballing joke, following a calamitous captain€™s display in the 7-1 World Cup semi-final drubbing at the hands of the Germans and a laughable £50 million move to PSG, Luiz once again reminded everyone that the Catalonian giants were after his signature.

''It۪s true that Barcelona were in touch a few times and things were looking good. But in the end, I realised that PSG were the club that wanted me more and they eventually signed me. I know I۪ll be happier here in Paris than in Barcelona or Munich. This is the club of the future. I am delighted to be here.۪۪ - David Luiz, September 2014.
