Five years later, Robert Green had the opportunity to learn from a possible mistake from Carroll by extending his stay at West Ham. However, knowing that he would be a valuable asset elsewhere having made 241 appearances in six years and becoming a regular fixture in the England squad, Green left on a free transfer in 2012. At the age of 32, Green had the pick of clubs to end his career at, but he opted to choose Queens Park Rangers, who were looking to acquire higher-level players. Green would start the season as first choice but the arrival of Julio Cesar relegated him to the bench, and he would make just 16 league appearances as QPR dropped down to the Championship. Green eventually became number one at Loftus Road, but his decision to switch to QPR can only be considered disastrous when you consider that he had offers on the table from top-10 Premier League clubs and teams in La Liga. It also meant that his England career came to an abrupt end, too.
