After making his debut with Rangers at the age of 18 and soon establishing himself in the first-team setup, Danny Wilson was tipped as a future star at the club, but his emergence attracted interest from big clubs in England. He won three individual awards at the end of his first season, but he rejected a new contract at Ibrox, instead choosing to move to Liverpool. Wilson could not be criticised for making the switch at that stage of his career, but the move ultimately did not pay off. He played just nine times for the Merseyside giants - just two coming in the Premier League - and he would end his time south of the border having featured more times during a loan spell in the Championship with Blackpool than with his parent club. Wilson eventually secured a career-saving move to Hearts before getting a second chance at Rangers, but signing for Liverpool severely hindered his development. Wilson, now 24 years of age, claims that he learned more at Liverpool than at anywhere else in his career, but nevertheless, he missed out on two years of senior development at a time when he was regarded as Scotland's most promising youngster.
