10 Reasons Why It's All Going Wrong For Louis Van Gaal At Man Utd

10. Injuries

Louis van Gaal's start to his career as manager of Manchester United wasn't exactly helped by a series of injuries to key players. Michael Carrick, Jonny Evans, Marouane Fellaini and even new signings Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera are all currently in the treatment room, meaning van Gaal has had to send out a patched-up team over the past two weeks. In the first league game of the season, against Swansea, the Dutchman was forced to play rookies Tyler Blackett and Jesse Lingard, and even the latter of those have since been sidelined, with Lingard struggling with an ankle problem. Against Sunderland yesterday, centre-back Chris Smalling joined the growing list of casualties at Old Trafford after straining his groin. At this rate, United are going to struggle to put a team out. The good news at least is that Robin van Persie has recovered from his injury woes that kept him out for the majority of last season but he looks nowhere near 100% match-fit and played only an hour against the Black Cats on Sunday having previously missed his side's first game against the Swans. Once the Reds get all their players back, things might not look quite so bleak, but that doesn't help matters for the time being.
